Description

The men’s black obsidian necklace, the volcanic stone worn without detours, a raw or semi-polished black obsidian, on a leather cord rather than a fine chain. No delicate pendant, no frills: the stone alone, almost as it comes out of the ground. Handcrafted from natural stones, this is the one you wear without ever taking it off.

A men’s necklace isn’t just a scaled-down women’s necklace. Here, everything is different by nature: the genuine leather cord replaces the fine chain, the stone gains in volume and keeps some of its raw texture rather than a perfect polish, and the sliding clasp lets you adjust the length in one motion, with no lobster clasp to fiddle with.

Obsidian remains the same volcanic stone, a natural glass born from lava that cooled too fast to crystallize, but presented in its most direct form. Some stones keep one raw face, barely smoothed, that recalls the source rock rather than a worked piece of jewelry. It’s a deliberate aesthetic choice: the stone stays identifiable as mineral, not as accessory.

In crystal healing, black obsidian keeps its reputation for protection and grounding. Worn as a necklace rather than a bracelet, it’s traditionally associated with an effect closer to the chest and the breath, useful, by tradition, in moments when pressure rises and you need to find a fixed point. It’s a piece many men wear continuously, day one, without ever thinking about it.

Camille, founder of Bijoux Obsidienne, crafting a men's black obsidian necklace in her workshop in France

Handcrafted by Camille

Every necklace is assembled by hand in my workshop, in France. For this model, I select stones that keep part of their original texture, not so raw they’d cut, not so polished they’d lose their mineral character. It’s a balance I look for stone by stone.

This necklace was born from the same request as the men’s bracelet: something solid, unadorned, that doesn’t look like a display-case piece of jewelry. The leather cord and sliding clasp are the direct answer, no fragile parts, a one-second adjustment. See also the men’s black obsidian bracelet, or the story of the workshop.

“A men’s necklace shouldn’t be noticed before it’s felt. The leather, the raw stone, that’s the point. Not to look nice. To hold up.”, Camille

Care: a soft cloth is all it takes for the stone; avoid prolonged water and oily products on the leather cord, and take it off before showering or working out. All my care tips are in the cleaning guide.

Here are the correspondences linked to black obsidian in crystal healing and ancient traditions — they come from beliefs, and should be taken as such.

The Warriors' Stone

Blades and arrowheads — Mesoamerican civilizations shaped obsidian for its sharp edges long before turning it into jewelry.

A material associated with raw strength before it was ever associated with ornament.

Root Chakra

Muladhara — the chakra of grounding and material stability.

Worn on the chest, it's said to work deeply, closer to the breath than to the wrist.

The Leather

A living material — leather develops a patina, marks the passage of time, unlike metal which stays identical.

A choice that follows how it's worn rather than freezing it.

Setting Your Boundaries

The most common use today: wearing obsidian as a quiet shield during high-pressure days, without ever taking it off or thinking about it.

A reminder: these correspondences belong to crystal healing and ancient traditions, wellness approaches based on beliefs. They are not medical claims and never replace the advice of a healthcare professional.

Caring for your obsidian

To keep your piece looking its best, a soft cloth is usually all you need. Avoid salt, harsh products and knocks, and take it off before showering, swimming or working out.

In crystal practice, many people also like to cleanse and recharge their stone from time to time, with smoke, under moonlight, or on a cluster of quartz.
