Description
The black obsidian heart pendant, a heart that isn’t trying to charm anyone, carved from the stone of protection rather than a soft one, it doesn’t say “I love you” but “I protect what’s mine”. A dense black, a universal shape, no sentimentality. Handmade with natural stones, it’s the one you wear once you’ve learned to look after yourself.
Most stone hearts are carved from rose quartz or rhodonite, pale stones associated with opening up and with tenderness. The obsidian heart says the opposite, and that is what makes it interesting. Obsidian is the shield stone: in crystal healing it is said to block what comes from outside, absorb tension, and help set boundaries. Carved into a heart, it no longer speaks of love given, but of love kept safe.
It’s a piece for those who give a great deal, sometimes too much, who are coming out of a hard stretch, or who simply want a heart without the sugar. The deep matte black of obsidian makes it graphic, almost plain, a long way from the expected red heart. It can be worn every day, over a jumper or against the skin, without ever reading as a declaration.
Obsidian is a volcanic glass, born of lava cooled so fast that no crystal had time to form. This material does not forgive an approximate cut: the curves of a heart, with its central hollow and its point, are among the hardest shapes to obtain cleanly in such a brittle stone.

Handcrafted by Camille
Every pendant is assembled by hand in my workshop, in France. The heart is a treacherous shape: the hollow at the top and the point at the bottom are exactly where obsidian tends to chip. I check both of those areas on every single piece, because a slightly lopsided heart is spotted instantly, far more than an irregular free-form stone would be.
I held off for a long time before offering a heart, because I didn’t want a saccharine piece. It was while working the obsidian that the meaning turned itself around: this isn’t a heart you give to say I love you, it’s a heart you wear to protect yourself. That, I liked. Care: a soft cloth is all it takes; avoid salt, knocks and prolonged water, and take it off before showering or exercising, the point of the heart is the part most sensitive to impact. All my tips are in the cleaning guide.
