Rainbow obsidian (also called celestial eye obsidian) owes its sheen to a fascinating optical effect: as the volcanic lava cools, tiny magnetite inclusions set into fine layers within the glass. When light strikes those layers it is diffracted, throwing back blue, silver or iridescent reflections. The sheen moves and changes intensity with the angle: you never see it quite the same way twice. In crystal healing, this obsidian is considered the most spiritual and introspective of the family. Every pendant is put together by hand in my workshop in France. I choose each rainbow obsidian bead one by one, holding it up to the light to check the blue sheen really shows, and really has that mystery, then fix the nylon cord with care, so the piece arriving at your door is truly exceptional.
