Rainbow obsidian owes its sheen to a fascinating optical phenomenon: as the volcanic lava cooled, minute magnetite inclusions set into fine layers within the glass. When light strikes those layers it is diffracted, sending back blue, silvery or iridescent glimmers. On a ring, where the stone is constantly in the light, that sheen becomes even more alive, every gesture changes the angle, changes the clarity. Every ring is put together by hand in my workshop, in France. I choose the rainbow obsidian bead one at a time, holding it up to the light to check that the blue sheen is genuinely there, genuinely alive, and I fit the steel band precisely, so that the ring arriving at your door is both comfortable and full of depth.
Rainbow obsidian rings are rare and precious. Each stone takes real attention, you have to find the perfect angle where the blue sheen truly appears. That’s what makes them so special. Care: a soft cloth is all it takes; avoid salt, knocks and prolonged contact with water, and take it off before showering or exercising. All my tips are in the care guide.
