Description
A fine band beaded over its whole circumference, topped by a round gold sheen obsidian cabochon ringed with beads. It is the finest and lightest of the fifteen settings in the series.
The beading runs around the entire band, including under the finger. That is not common: on most beaded rings on the market the pattern stops at the shoulders and the underside stays smooth, because nobody sees it and it saves work. Here it goes all the way round, and you feel it on the finger: the ring does not slide the same way, it grips the skin slightly and moves less.
The slenderness changes the use. A band two millimetres across stacks with other rings without adding bulk, can be worn on several fingers, and goes under a glove. The wide settings in the series do none of that. It is the ring in the series you keep on most easily from morning to evening. The other rings are here.
The reservation is the strength, and it holds for every fine silver band. Sterling silver is a soft metal, and a 2 mm shank deforms if you clench your fist hard on it or rest it on a hard surface while leaning. It does not break, it goes oval, and it has to be reshaped. I do that free of charge. Do not wear it to carry loads. The size guide saves a return.
Crystal lore ties obsidian to grounding, and gold sheen in particular to self-confidence. None of that is proven, and no piece of jewellery heals anything. I have gathered separately what tradition attributes to obsidian, in the conditional from start to finish.

Beading a band along its whole length
Beading a band all the way round raises a problem of joining that partial beading does not have. The beads have to come out as a whole number around the circumference, failing which the last and the first overlap or leave a gap, and that flaw shows exactly under the finger, where the thumb goes to pull the ring off. So the spacing of the beading is worked out from the size ordered, and it is not the same from a size 52 to a size 62. Each size has its own spacing.
This setting is in the catalogue because the other fourteen are rings that get noticed, and many people want a stone on their finger without wearing a piece of jewellery. Two millimetres of shank is the line between the two. The other rings are here.
The beads have to land exactly around the band. The spacing is not the same in 52 and in 62, each size has its own.
Obsidian does not mind water, but it shatters on impact. Take the ring off before DIY, sport and carrying loads. Do not polish the hollows between the beads: the black goes and the beading visually flattens out. Cleaning an obsidian piece covers the rest.
