Description
The rainbow obsidian eye necklace, a fragment of night sky trapped in stone, polished obsidian that, from a certain angle, reveals a pinpoint blue-silver sheen evoking a star or an open eye within the dark material. A pendant you only truly see when it moves. Handcrafted from natural stones, this is the one you wear for the detail everyone notices second.
This variety, sometimes called sheen obsidian depending on its tint, gets its name from a rare optical phenomenon: tiny mineral inclusions aligned just beneath the stone’s surface create a concentrated, almost pinpoint reflection that appears and shifts with the angle of the light, like an eye opening, or a lone star in a black sky. Unlike rainbow obsidian’s diffuse, multicoloured effect, the sheen here is single and localised, not spread across the whole surface.
This phenomenon requires a very precise cut to reveal itself: the stone has to be oriented exactly along the axis of the inclusion, or the eye effect doesn’t show at all. That’s one of the reasons this variety remains rarer and more sought-after than classic black obsidian.
In crystal healing, this obsidian keeps the protection and grounding properties of black obsidian, but tradition also credits it with an extra dimension tied to inner vision and intuition, the idea of an eye that sees what the ordinary gaze misses. It’s a stone many choose to accompany a period of decision-making or self-questioning.

Handcrafted by Camille
Every necklace is assembled by hand in my workshop, in France. This eye-effect variety is the one that demands the most patience to cut: I have to turn each raw stone through several angles before finding the one that reveals the cleanest reflection, then cut exactly along that axis. A poorly oriented stone simply loses its effect.
