The obsidian ring, a stone worn at your fingertips
A ring is the boldest way to wear obsidian: visible on the hand, present in every gesture. Known in crystal healing as a stone of protection and grounding, black obsidian keeps quiet company through the day. Every black obsidian ring in this collection is built by hand in my studio, around a stone chosen for its character.
The collection runs from a sterling silver obsidian ring to broader, plainer bands, there are men's and women's shapes, and most sit somewhere comfortably in between.
For everything about this stone born of a volcano, its varieties, its properties, how to look after it, have a read of my complete guide to obsidian. And to keep your ring at its best, follow my care tips.
Worth noting, the properties mentioned here belong to crystal healing, a wellbeing practice grounded in tradition and belief. They are not a health claim and are not a substitute for professional advice.
Are the rings adjustable?
Most of my rings sit on an adjustable stainless steel band that suits a wide spread of finger sizes. Whether a ring is adjustable or a fixed size is stated on its product page. For fixed sizes, note that my workshop works in millimetres while Australia uses letter sizes, the size guide converts between the two and gives you your AU letter from a single measurement. Still unsure? Write to me before you order.
Is obsidian suitable for a wedding or engagement ring?
Honestly? I'd steer you away from it for a ring you never take off. Obsidian is a volcanic glass at about 5 to 5.5 on the Mohs scale, softer than quartz, and it's brittle rather than tough, so a knock against a doorframe can chip it. It makes a beautiful ring you wear by choice; it makes a fragile one you wear through the washing-up. If you love the stone for an engagement piece, a pendant or a bracelet will survive far better.
Are your rings really handmade?
Yes: every ring is built by hand in my studio, around a genuine obsidian stone I choose for its character. That makes each piece one of a kind. You can read my story and how I work on the about page.
How do I care for my obsidian ring?
A soft cloth is usually all it takes. Rings take more knocks than any other piece, and at 5 to 5.5 on the Mohs scale obsidian chips more easily than a harder stone, so take yours off for the gym, the garden, the washing-up and the beach. Steer clear of salt and harsh products too. All my tips are in the guide to cleaning your obsidian.
How long does delivery to Australia take?
Your ring is made to order, so allow 2 to 4 business days in the studio, then 10 to 16 business days in transit to metro Australia and 12 to 20 to regional and remote addresses. It travels as a tracked international parcel, and shipping is free over AU$79. Full details on the delivery & returns page.
